I visited the Hanover
internet site and saw your request for Hanover history.
My Grandparents were William and Elizabeth Luehring.
They owned the old farmstead just east and south of Alfred
Luehring's farm which is just East of the Zion Lutheran
church. My mother was Velma Luehring and was born on
this farm. Mom had
one brother John, and two sisters, Evelyn and Ruth. Mom
attended school at the now gone Pleasant Hill school. In
the early 40's my mom worked at LeRoys Cafe as a waitress
and her sister Ruth was the cook. My dad Leonard Ray was
from Wymore and worked on a road crew that built a lot
of roads across Northern Kansas. One of the road jobs lead
him to Hanover Kansas. Dad and his buddies stopped at
LeRoy's cafe for breakfast and when the cute
little waitress came over to the table to take the guys
order two hearts connected. Dad fell for mom and were
later married. Please see the attachment for
three pictures from the early 40's when dad met mom.
My dad is the center guy ( with the tie ) of the five
workers. I have a picture of mom and Ruth outside of
the cafe, but its not real clear. I love Hanover. I polish
rocks as a hobby, and rockhunt on the Little Blue River
sandbeds from Spencer to Hanover about every weekend
when its nice weather. My
Grandparents lived in Washington Kansas and I was born
in Marysville Kansas. My uncle Leo Walter lived
in Washington and always came to Hanover to play bingo.
I think this area is so beautiful your lucky to live
there. I Love Kansas!
