Good Turnout for
KanStep Meet
An estimated
150 to 200 interested citizens turned out last Tuesday evening
at the Kloppenberg Center in Hanover to hear Mr. Salih Doughramaji
from the Kansas Department of Commerce explain the steps
necessary in obtaining a grant for the development of a new
fairground site.
One of the main requirements will be the volunteer labor needed
to carry out this project and it was the consensus of those
in attendance that this would not be a problem, as all equipment
and professional labor and expertise is ready, willing and
able to make it happen.
Bob Rut, city fire chief, stated that their annual consignment
sale was getting too big at the present site and that this
new area would be a big boon for them.
Larry Hagedorn stated how it would also be a big benefit to
the local 4-H Clubs and that they were ready and available
for any volunteer help.
Also on hand was Deb Ohlde from the North Central Planning
Commission to answer questions, etc.
Rep. Sharon Schwartz was also in attendance and stated that
the community has always found a way in the past to achieve
their goals and could see no reason why they couldn’t
carry this one out. She added that she would be willing
to help out in any way that she could.
As Bill Byrnes commented, let’s do it, and do it right!
All in all it was apparent that all in attendance felt that
this project could be carried out and were willing to help
in any manner or way that they could.
Judy Bohning submitted a little poem concerning the meeting
which depicts the tempo of the community.
